DOKOLO, LANGO - Police in Dokolo District are investigating a daring daylight robbery after a man posing as an official from the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) allegedly stole UGX 6 million from the manager of Dokolo Oil Petrol Station at gunpoint on Monday morning.
The incident occurred on October 13, 2025, at around 8:30 am when the suspect, who identified himself as Baine Mwesigye, claimed he was on an inspection mission for the IGG’s office to monitor how Dokolo District Local Government officials — including the LC V Chairperson and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) — access fuel at the station.
The man signed the visitors’ book and requested to view the station’s fuel records and payment receipts. When the station manager, Mr. Olila Benard, led him into the office where the safe and receipt books are kept, the suspect locked the door, pulled out a pistol, and threatened him.
He allegedly tied the manager’s hands and mouth with masking tape, robbed about UGX 6 million from the safe, locked the manager inside the office, and calmly walked away.
Despite several pump attendants and a Rock Security Company guard being present, none realized what was happening until the manager started shouting for help. When they opened the door, he explained that the visitor had just robbed him at gunpoint.
Police were immediately informed, and a case of aggravated robbery was registered at Dokolo Police Station. The Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) and detectives from the station have since visited and examined the scene.
Confirming the report to journalists,SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Public Relations Officer for North Kyoga Region Police, said investigations are ongoing to track down the suspect.
“We have registered a case of aggravated robbery, and our teams are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspect. The manager has also been detained temporarily to assist with the investigation, pending corroboration of his account,” Okema stated.
Police have urged members of the public and business operators to remain vigilant and verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a government official before granting access to restricted areas.
