OWC gives 15 tonnes of maize & soybean seed to Amolatar farmers

AMOLATAR DISTRICT UGANDA : The Ministry of Agriculture,Animal Industry and Fisheries,through Operation Wealth Creation (OWC),has distributed 15 tonnes of certified seed to farmers in Amolatar District to increase agricultural production and improve household incomes.
Speaking during the launch of the seed distribution exercise,Grace Apok,the Regional Coordinator for Equatorial Seed, said the district received 10 tonnes of maize seed and 5 tonnes of soybean seed under the government programme.
Apok explained that the seeds are intended to strengthen food security,increase crop yields,and support farmers to engage in commercial agriculture. He emphasized transparency and accountability throughout the distribution process. Amolatar District Production Officer Francis Ojok said Operation Wealth Creation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Equatorial Seed to supply quality seed to registered farmer groups in the district. He added that the programme will also benefit members of cooperative unions to expand agricultural production.
Amolatar District LC5 Councillor Okao Kizito praised the government and Operation Wealth Creation for delivering the seeds at the start of the planting season,saying the support will help farmers increase food production,improve household incomes,and promote agribusiness in the district.
Farmer Awio Mike welcomed the initiative and encouraged fellow beneficiaries to plant the seeds responsibly to maximize production.
Awio warned against selling the seeds instead of using them for farming.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Sarah Tyan commended the Government of Uganda for supporting farmers through the programme.
She urged beneficiaries to use the seeds for their intended purpose and cautioned against diverting or selling the inputs. She also called on the district production department to intensify farmer training across all sub-counties to ensure beneficiaries adopt proper agronomic practices and achieve higher yields.
