Lira Assistant RDC Ayo Proscovia rallies Muslims on Eid al-Adha, congratulates new Ministers
LIRA — The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Lira, Proscovia Ayo Otyek, has extended warm congratulations to the Muslim community across Lango and the entire country as they celebrate this year's Eid al-Adha.
Speaking to Radio Qfm on Wednesday, Ms. Ayo praised the Islamic community for their steadfastness and spiritual devotion, noting that Islam continues to play an indispensable role in cultivating national morality, social cohesion, and mutual coexistence.
"Islam is fundamentally a faith of peace and harmony," Ayo observed, drawing a parallel to the Quranic guidance in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:208): "O you who have believed, enter into peace completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan." She urged believers to use this sacred Feast of the Sacrifice to renew their commitment to unity and community development.
In a special holiday message, the Assistant RDC also took the opportunity to congratulate the newly appointed ministers from the region, including Hon. Sam Engola, Hon. Mercy Lakisa, Hon. Santa Alum Ogwang, and Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng. She described their appointments as a vote of confidence by President Yoweri Museveni in the leadership capacity of the Lango sub-region.
Ayo appealed to the Muslim clergy, particularly the Imams, to work hand-in-hand with these newly appointed leaders to fast-track government development agendas. She emphasized that spiritual leadership should walk side-by-side with economic transformation.
"We must use our pulpits to fight household poverty," Ayo urged. "I call upon our religious leaders to actively guide their congregations to embrace the President’s wealth creation models."
She specifically highlighted the four-acre commercial farming model, the Parish Development Model (PDM), and Emyooga as vital instruments for transforming local livelihoods. Ayo concluded by reminding believers that celebrating Eid al-Adha should inspire hard work, self-reliance, and active participation in lifting families into middle-income status.
