Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Calls For Mass Cleaning of Homes Across Lira & Lango

Lira City Woman Member of Parliament and Government Chief Whip,Dr.Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero,has called on residents of Lira City and the wider Lango Sub-region to take part in a coordinated cleaning exercise aimed at improving sanitation and keeping residential areas clean.

 The cleaning exercise is scheduled for Saturday,August 28,2026,with residents expected to participate in cleaning their respective neighbourhoods. Speaking to the media,Dr.Aceng urged every resident to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their surroundings,saying maintaining clean communities requires collective action rather than relying solely on local authorities. She said the government,under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,has emphasized sanitation and cleanliness as an important responsibility for citizens and communities across Uganda. Dr.Aceng called on the police and other security agencies to support the exercise by ensuring that residents are able to participate peacefully and that the sanitation guidelines are followed. She also urged residents to work together irrespective of their religious or social differences,noting that members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church,who observe Saturday as their Sabbath,will participate in the cleaning exercise on Sunday,in line with the government's schedule.

 Dr.Aceng appealed to residents of Lira City and Lango not to politicize or obstruct the exercise,but instead to comply with the official guidelines issued by government for the sake of public health and a cleaner environment.

Meanwhile,Uganda Police Force spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the nationwide cleaning exercise will run from 7:00am to 4:00am on Saturday August 28, 2026,according to the arrangements communicated by authorities. Rusoke warned drivers,motorists and cyclists and other road users to comply with all traffic and security guidelines during the exercise to ensure a smooth and orderly operation.

 Authorities are encouraging the public to participate responsibly and work collectively to improve sanitation in their communities.
