42 Arrested in Lira City Night Operation
According to Police, there has been public outcry over rising cases of housebreaking, simple robbery and phone snatching in the areas.

LIRA CITY Police in Lira City Central Police Station have arrested 42 suspects in an intelligence-led disruptive operation conducted from the night of 25th to morning of 26th August 2026.
The operation targeted crime hotspots in Te-Alok, Atego Ward, Starch Factory and Tekulu Ojwina, where thugs have been hiding after terrorizing residents.
According to Police, there has been public outcry over rising cases of housebreaking, simple robbery and phone snatching in the areas. During the operation, exhibits including opium, pangas, a four-head spear, aviation fuel and knives were recovered.
All suspects are currently detained at Lira City Central Police Station pending joint screening with local leaders.
After screening, files will be submitted to the Resident Chief State Attorney for legal guidance before they are arraigned in court. Police have called for continued information sharing from the public and pledged commitment to ensuring a crime-free society, noting that operations will extend to other areas.
