MPs Commit Funding for Self-Care Programs After Health Ministry Orientation
The seminar, held on Monday 17th August 2026 at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, focused on self-care for social transformation and its role in strengthening Uganda’s health system.

KAMPALA – Members of the 12th Parliament have pledged to appropriate funds to support self-care promotion in Uganda, following an orientation conducted by the Ministry of Health (@MinofHealthUG) and the Parliamentary Forum on Maternal Health (NAWMP).
The seminar, held on Monday 17th August 2026 at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, focused on self-care for social transformation and its role in strengthening Uganda’s health system.
Health officials told MPs that self-care is gaining global attention for its role in empowering individuals, families, and communities to take charge of their health.
Key areas highlighted includepreventing and managing non-communicable diseases, promoting clean and healthy environments, and reducing the burden on health facilities. The Ministry of Health noted that integrating self-care into national health programs can help Ugandans manage common conditions at home while seeking professional care when needed.
MPs who attended the orientation committed to support budget allocations for self-care initiatives in partnership with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders including @cehurduganda ,Dr. Charles Ayume (@DrAyumeCharles) and members of NAWMP emphasized that Parliament has a critical role in creating policies and funding mechanisms that enable communities to practice safe and effective self-care.
The forum also called for increased public awareness so that Ugandans can make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
