Victory Outreach Ministry Distributes Food Aid to Hunger-Stricken Families in Karamoja

Kotido, Uganda – Victory  Outreach Ministry has distributed food relief to vulnerable families in Karamoja as hunger continues to affect communities across the sub-region.

The relief package, delivered to households in Lengen Sub-county, included 10 kilograms of rice and 20 kilograms of maize flour for each of 300 households. The beneficiaries include elderly people, persons living with disabilities, widows, and other vulnerable families facing severe food shortages.

Speaking during the distribution exercise on Friday 31/07/2026, Rev. Johnson Ogema, the team leader of Victory Outreach Ministry, said the church was moved to intervene after seeing photographs and videos showing the devastating impact of hunger, with some residents already falling ill due to lack of food. He said Christians have a responsibility to care for those in need and that the ministry chose to share the blessings God had provided with families facing hardship.

Rev. Ogema also encouraged residents of Lengen and other areas in Kotido to take advantage of the ongoing rains by cultivating their land to improve food production and reduce hunger in the months ahead.

 Kotido District Chairperson Paul Kamol Lotee commended Victory Outreach Ministry for its compassion and commitment to supporting communities severely affected by food insecurity. He appealed to the church and other well-wishers to continue assisting vulnerable families, noting that many households remain in desperate need of support. Meanwhile, Kotido District Woman Member of Parliament Nuria Hafsa Teki said leaders are working with the government to address challenges such as water shortages and insecurity caused by cattle raids, both of which have worsened living conditions in the district.

She added that the prolonged dry spell experienced in recent months had significantly intensified hunger across the region. One of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Victory Outreach Ministry, saying the food assistance would help sustain their family during the difficult period. The beneficiary also pledged to continue praying for the church in appreciation of its support.

The Government of Uganda recently allocated UGX 45 billion for the procurement of food relief to support communities across the Karamoja sub-region affected by prolonged drought and hunger.
