Minister Sam Engola Inspects 112km Roads in Erute South Lira district
He urged local leaders and residents to ensure proper supervision of government projects,saying quality roads,schools,health facilities,and clean water services are essential for improving livelihoods.

LIRA DISTRICT 27/JULY 2016 :Minister for Relief,Disaster preparedness and Refuges and Erute South Member of Parliament,Sam Engola,has completed an inspection of 112 kilometres of roads rehabilitated in financial year 2025/2026. During the inspection on Monday,July 27, 2026,Engola toured several road projects that were jointly implemented by him and Lira District Local Government.
He urged local leaders and residents to ensure proper supervision of government projects,saying quality roads,schools,health facilities,and clean water services are essential for improving livelihoods.
Engola said that,besides serving as Erute South MP,his appointment as Minister gives him an opportunity to closely monitor road infrastructure development across the Lango sub-region and ensure government services reach local communities in time. The minister also inspected Onywako Health Centre II,where he found no development is going in that health facility.
He called the Minister for Health during the time of inspection and the Minister Dr.Christ Baryomusi pledged to secure funding for the construction of a new Outpatient Department (OPD) and the upgrading of the facility from Health Centre II to Health Centre III.
Lira District LC5 Chairperson RCM Okello Orik welcomed the minister's visit,saying the district expects significant improvements in road conditions once implementation of the 2026/2027 district road budget begins.
He appealed to Engola to continue lobbying for additional grader noting that inadequate grader remains one of the district's biggest challenges.
Lira District Acting Engineer Geoffrey Ongala said the district had earlier inspected roads in Erute North before moving to Erute South. He revealed that 102 kilometres of roads have been maintained in Erute North,while 113 kilometres have been worked on in Erute South.

Resident District Commissioner of Lira district,Lilian Eyal commended Engola for working closely with district leaders regardless of political differences,saying the collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to improving public service delivery.
She encouraged residents to make productive use of the improved roads by increasing agricultural production and commercial activities that can raise household incomes and boost local economic development.
Among the roads inspected were Amach-Abongomola (10.2km), Amunamun-Alik Health Centre III (3.8km), Kekere-Abutadii (4.2km), Awiodyek-Alworo (8.5km),Amach Town Council-Adip (8.9km), and Agali Seed-Ocamonyang (8.8km), among others.
