10 arrested over theft of computers worth UGx 40M from Ngai SS Oyam.

OYAM – The Territorial Police in Oyam District have arrested 10 suspects in connection with the theft of 16 computers from the computer laboratory of Ngai SS.
According to a police statement issued by the North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident happened on 23rd August 2026 at around 2:00 AM at Barryeko village, Akucha parish, Ngai Sub-County, Oyam District.
The case was reported to Oyam Police by the Headteacher Mr. Okot Janani, 57, after he discovered the break-in at around 7:40 AM.
He immediately alerted the ICT teacher Mr. Olobo Tonny, It is alleged that unknown people broke into the school's computer lab during the night and stole 16 HP Central Processing Units (CPUs) valued at approximately Shs 40 Million.

Police have since opened a case file of office breaking and theft to investigate the matter. According to Okema, Statement recorded from the complainant,Crime scene visited and processed by District SOCO from Oyam CPS , Canine (police dog) introduced to the scene to track suspects, DVR from the CCTV camera recovered and exhibited for review Police confirmed that 10 suspects have been arrested to assist with investigations.
They include the ICT teacher, three school askaris (watchmen), and six students of the school. Those identified are the ICT teacher and the three security guards.
The identities of the six student suspects, who are minors aged between 16 and 17 years, have been withheld for legal reasons.
Police say plans are underway to: Review CCTV footage from the ICT laboratory Have all suspects, fingerprinted and samples collected for DNA analysis. Interview the suspects, the CCTV service providers, and the installers of the computers,Establish the level of students' involvement in the alleged crime.
