Archbishop kaziimba commends Bishop olwa, hails unity and teamwork in farewell visit to lango

LANGO –The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has commended the Bishop of Lango Diocese, Rt. Rev. Prof. Alfred Olwa, for his dedicated service to the Diocese, his international representation of the Church of Uganda, and his immense contribution to the wider Anglican Communion.
Archbishop Kaziimba made the remarks upon his arrival at Lango Diocese headquarters, Boro Boro, as part of his farewell tour to Northern Uganda ahead of his retirement in 2027.
The Archbishop was warmly received by Bishop Olwa, clergy, and hundreds of Christians who gathered to welcome him.
He was consecrated in March 2020 as the 9th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and is among seven senior bishops expected to retire in 2027 upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65. His retirement will mark a leadership transition in the Church of Uganda, with farewell visits giving dioceses an opportunity to reflect on his tenure.
In his address, the Archbishop also expressed deep gratitude to Lira City Woman MP, Rt. Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, for her support to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic and for personally helping him and his wife during that difficult period. Drawing lessons from football, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the importance of unity, teamwork, and physical fitness.
Citing Arsenal players as an example, he encouraged Christians to exercise regularly, maintain good health, and embrace sports as a way of relieving stress and promoting togetherness.
During the visit, Lango Arsenal fans led by Government Chief Whip WMP Lira City Jane Ruth Aceng gifted the Archbishop a brown envelope equivalent to one bull and two cows as a lasting reminder of the people of Lango.
The same team Arsenal fans led by Govt Chief whip also gifted Bishop Alfred Olwa, a known staunch Arsenal supporter, with a branded Arsenal Atire. Bishop Olwa applauded the Government Chief Whip and the entire team for the gesture.
Today Sunday 20th Sept 2026 Christians join the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, for a thanksgiving and farewell worship service at Lango Diocese.
