NATIONAL- The Government of Uganda has dismissed as false a statement circulating on social media claiming that President Yoweri Museveni directed a change of Uganda’s currency notes.

In a clarification issued to the public on May 19, 2026, authorities said the statement did not originate from the President, State House, or the Bank of Uganda.

Officials described the message as fake and urged Ugandans to ignore it.

The government further advised the public to rely only on official communication channels for verified announcements regarding national matters, including currency and financial policy.

The clarification comes amid growing concern over misinformation spreading on social media platforms.
