LIRA CITY, UGANDA — St. Gracious Secondary School (SAGRASS) has held a dedication service for 1,090 Ordinary Level (O-Level) and Advanced Level (A-Level) candidates ahead of their final Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) examinations.

The ceremony brought together candidates, parents, teachers, school administrators and other members of the school community for prayers, encouragement and guidance.

The Guest of Honour, Bishop Dr. Moses Odongo, Archbishop of the National Fellowship of Born-Again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda, urged the candidates to put their trust in God while remaining disciplined, confident and committed to hard work.

Dr. Odongo encouraged the candidates to approach their examinations with faith and determination, reminding them that prayer should go hand in hand with serious preparation, discipline and effective use of time.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Principal of St. Gracious Secondary School, Mr. Martin Ojok Anyuru, highlighted the school's growth and achievements since it was officially commissioned in 2019 as a benchmark institution and centre of excellence.

He said the school has made a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the surrounding community by creating employment opportunities and attracting teachers, parents and businesses to the area.

According to the Principal, SAGRASS has also contributed to keeping young people engaged in education and other productive activities, while promoting discipline and moral values within the community.

Mr. Ojok Anyuru said the school's academic performance has continued to inspire other institutions in the Lango sub-region to improve their standards.

He highlighted the increasing number of SAGRASS students gaining admission to universities through government and private sponsorship programmes.

The Principal noted that 53 students from SAGRASS have secured government-sponsored university opportunities, describing this as part of the school's growing record of academic achievement. SAGRASS students have also participated in international academic competitions.

In 2025, three students travelled to Brazil to participate in the International Chemistry Olympiad, while another candidate represented the school in Moscow in 2026.

The Principal further revealed that 10 students have secured Algerian government scholarships, adding to the school's record of producing students who access international opportunities.

Mr. Ojok Anyuru revealed that more than 30 former students who completed their studies at SAGRASS have returned to the school as teachers, contributing to the institution's continued growth.

He assured parents that candidates from both the Main Campus and Leo Atubo Campus had been adequately prepared academically and morally for the examinations.

He urged the candidates to remain focused, manage their time effectively and maintain discipline throughout the examination period. The Chairman of the SAGRASS Board of Directors, Professor Marus Eton, commended the school administration, teachers and parents for their contribution towards preparing the candidates.

Professor Eton expressed confidence in the candidates from both campuses and encouraged them to remain focused as they enter the final stage of their secondary education.

The dedication service concluded with prayers for the 1,090 candidates as they prepare to sit their UNEB examinations.
