Museveni Calls for Global Justice and Peace as He Hosts State Iftar Dinner at Entebbe

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged to initiate a global conversation on justice, peace, and shared prosperity as key solutions to ending conflicts and inequality across the world.

The President made the remarks on Thursday, March 5, 2026, while hosting the annual State Iftar Dinner at State House Entebbe under the theme “Peace, Unity and Reconciliation: Our Divine Mandate for Nation Building.”

Museveni, who currently serves as Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), said many global conflicts persist due to identity-based politics driven by chauvinism instead of ideological and interest-based cooperation.

He cited the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, noting that divisive and short-sighted political approaches have contributed to instability in the region. The President emphasized that the world should embrace justice, peace, and global affluence founded on shared interests to end conflicts and promote socio-economic transformation.

The Ugandan leader also called for a peaceful resolution to the Middle East crisis involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, reiterating his support for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.

Museveni Urges Muslims to Promote Unity and Wealth Creation

During the event, President Museveni encouraged the Muslim community in Uganda to continue promoting unity and focus on wealth creation as a pathway to socio-economic transformation and national development.

He also commended the Muslim fraternity for overwhelmingly supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government and backing him in the recent elections.

Leaders Rally Muslims on Peace and Development

The Vice President, Jessica Alupo, urged Muslims across the country to embrace the Iftar theme by promoting peace, unity, and reconciliation during and after the Ramadan.

Alupo noted that the peace initiated and maintained by President Museveni has enabled Uganda to make significant development strides. She encouraged the Muslim community to uphold the same values of unity and peace to sustain the country’s progress.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, confirmed that Parliament has received the Khadi Courts Bill and will soon begin processing it.

Among applauded the Muslim community for supporting the NRM government and re-electing President Museveni in the 2026 elections, describing him as a pillar of peace, unity, and socio-economic development in Uganda.

Mufti Calls for Passing of Khadi Courts Bill

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Mubajje, called on the government to expedite the enactment of the Khadi Courts by passing the bill currently before Parliament.

Mubajje said the legislation would help ease arbitration of family and Islamic matters within the Muslim community.

He also revealed that the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council has completed the registration of all Imams across mosques in the country to streamline leadership from the grassroots level.

The Mufti further commended President Museveni for his inclusive leadership, which he said has enabled the appointment of Muslims to key positions in government, while also appealing for more representation.

Economic Empowerment for Muslim Women

Mubajje also revealed that the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council is implementing strategic initiatives to organize Muslim women into Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) to boost household incomes.

The initiative aims to reach up to six million Muslim women across the country, supporting wealth creation and economic empowerment.

He urged Muslims nationwide to reflect on the values of Islam during the Ramadan period and use them to promote unity, discipline, and national development.
