Oyam District: Police in Oyam District have launched investigations into a case of aggravated robbery and attempted murder following a violent attack on the manager of Med Minder Pharmacy in Kamdini Town Council.

The incident occurred on the night of June 22, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m., when Ali Nazim, a 35-year-old Pakistani national and manager of Med Minder Pharmacy's Kamdini branch, was attacked by an unidentified assailant and robbed of an unspecified amount of money.

According to preliminary police findings, the suspect entered the pharmacy pretending to be a customer interested in purchasing medicine. At the time, Nazim was reportedly closing the business and preparing to return home.

Police say the attacker forced his way into the premises, brandished what appeared to be a pistol, and ordered the victim to remain silent. The suspect then dragged Nazim into the pharmacy's drug store and demanded cash allegedly generated from sales over the previous three days.

Fearing for his life, Nazim handed over the money. However, the assailant later stabbed him in the stomach before fleeing the scene with the cash.

The injured manager was initially given first aid in Kamdini before being rushed to St. Mary's Hospital Lacor in Gulu City with the assistance of a Good Samaritan and his employer, Hussein Iftikhar. He remains admitted at the hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Police officers from Kamdini Police Station responded to the scene after receiving information from regional criminal investigations officers. By the time officers arrived, the victim had already been evacuated for medical attention.

The crime scene was secured and documented, and a case of aggravated robbery and attempted murder has since been registered at Kamdini Police Station.

Police spokesperson for North Kyoga Region, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, said preliminary investigations suggest the attacker may have had prior knowledge about the money kept at the pharmacy.

Investigators suspect there could have been insider involvement, noting that the assailant specifically demanded cash from recent sales that had reportedly not yet been banked.

Police plan to interview the pharmacy's three employees to establish whether there was any connection between them and the suspect. Authorities are also seeking to review CCTV footage from the pharmacy, if available, and deploy a police canine unit (K9) to assist in tracing the attacker.

"The assailant is believed to be a familiar figure within Kamdini, based on the victim's account," Okema said.

Police have urged residents to keep contact numbers of local police commanders readily available to enable faster reporting and response to emergencies.

Investigations are ongoing.
