NRM Official Arrested Over Alleged Mismanagement of UGX 14.2 Million Election Funds in Alebtong.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Otiti allegedly received the UGX 14.2 million from the NRM Secretariat on the same day for the LC1 and Women Council elections.

ALEBTONG - 23rd July 2026 : Police in Alebtong District have arrested a senior National Resistance Movement (NRM) official over the alleged mismanagement of UGX 14.2 million that was reportedly meant to facilitate the election of NRM LC1 Chairpersons and Women Councilors in Aloi Town Council.
The suspect,Otiti Sam,the NRM Chairperson for Aloi Town Council,is under investigation for alleged abuse of office after reportedly failing to distribute the funds to the intended beneficiaries.
According to Police,the case was reported to Aloi Town Council Police Station on 22nd July 2026 at about 6:01pm by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Alebtong District,Mr.Lutwama Mathew. Preliminary investigations indicate that Otiti allegedly received UGX 14.2 million from the NRM Secretariat on the same day to facilitate the election of NRM LC1 Chairpersons and Women Councilors. However,complaints from intended beneficiaries alleged that the money was never distributed as planned,prompting the Deputy RDC's office to refer the matter to Police for investigation.
Police registered a case of alleged abuse of office,arrested the suspect,and detained him at Alebtong Central Police Station,where he remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Detectives have already recorded statements from the initial witnesses and are now obtaining additional statements from officials at the NRM Secretariat and other relevant witnesses to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged mismanagement of the funds.

Police say the investigation file will be completed and submitted to the Resident State Attorney for legal guidance before any court proceedings are instituted. Authorities described the allegations as concerning,noting that this is the second reported case involving alleged mismanagement of NRM election facilitation funds,following a similar incident recently reported in Amolatar District.
Police have warned individuals entrusted with public or party funds against diverting resources intended for beneficiaries, emphasizing that anyone found criminally liable will face the full force of the law. Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
