ALEBTONG, — Authorities in Alebtong District have launched investigations into alleged irregularities in the construction of the Outpatient Department (OPD) at Awei Health Centre III after local leaders raised concerns that key components of the project were never completed.

The LCIII Chairperson of Awei Sub-county, Sam Oyena Obonyo, alleges that the contractor, Engineer David Ogwok of Nabesha Company, failed to deliver several items under the contract awarded in the 2025/2026 financial year.

According to Oyena, the district awarded the contract at a cost of UGX 99,275,000 for the OPD block and additional infrastructure including terrazzo flooring in the ward, a placenta pit, and a medical waste disposal pit.

He claims these facilities were never constructed. Oyena further alleges that despite the incomplete works, the contractor submitted a report to the district indicating that the entire project had been completed, including the terrazzo floor, placenta pit, and waste disposal pit.

Alebtong District LCV Chairperson Ambrose Ongom Ongom confirmed receipt of the complaint and said district leadership has started a comprehensive verification of all government projects implemented in the 2025/2026 financial year. Ongom said his administration inherited reports of contractors awaiting payment.

"No payments will be made until a thorough inspection confirms that all contracted works were completed according to specifications," he stressed. He added that the district will soon hold a public accountability exercise where findings from inspections of all development projects will be presented to residents.

The goal, he said, is for the public to know which projects were properly implemented and which fell short.

The LCV Chairperson urged residents of Awei Sub-county to remain calm, assuring them that the district is committed to ensuring value for public money and holding accountable anyone found responsible for substandard or incomplete work.

While  Engineer David Ogwok of Nabesha Company  is yet to give his comments about the alleged  claim.
