Diocese calls on all Christians to join July 11 thanksgiving for God’s faithfulness since 1968

Lira Diocese to Mark 58th Anniversary with Thanksgiving Celebrations

LANGO - Lira Diocese is set to celebrate 58 years since its creation with a thanksgiving event on Saturday, 11th July 2026, to honor God for His work in the Lango Sub-region. Speaking to our reporter on Tuesday 7th July 2026, Mr. Julius Peter Ogwang, Chairperson of the organizing committee, said all preparations are underway to ensure the celebrations are successful. According to Ogwang, the event will be a day of thanking God for the great achievements the Diocese has registered in the 58 years since it was founded in 1968. 

“The celebrations will bring together people from all backgrounds regardless of tribe, religion or culture. But we are all united in Jesus Christ,” Ogwang said. He appealed to the public to turn up in large numbers to make the day a success and peaceful. HISTORY Lira Diocese was created on 12th July 1968 after it was carved out of Gulu Diocese

 The Bishops who have served the Diocese include: 1. Bishop Ceaser Asili 2. Bishop Joseph Oyanga 3. Bishop Joseph Franzelli, Emeritus 4. Bishop Linos Wanok- Current Bishop.
