Police Arrest Three Over Attempted Bribery of UNEB Scout in Lira

The Territorial Police in the North Kyoga Region have arrested three suspects in Lira City for allegedly attempting to bribe a Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) scout in a bid to influence the conduct of the ongoing Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

The suspects have been identified as Odongo George, Ekut Simon (32), and Awoko Lavoiser (26).

According to police reports, the trio attempted to offer a bribe of UGX 1,000,000 (one million shillings) in UGX 50,000 notes to Ayoo Christine, a UNEB scout assigned to Oyam District. The bribe was reportedly meant to compromise the integrity of the national examinations, which began on October 31, 2025, with the briefing of candidates.

Acting on a tip-off, police officers swiftly arrested the suspects at Garden Hotel in Lira City and recovered the cash, which has since been exhibited as evidence. The case has been registered at Lira City Central Division Police Station, and investigations are ongoing. Upon completion, the suspects will be charged and presented before court.

Police Warning Against Examination Malpractice

The Uganda Police Force has cautioned the public and all individuals involved in UNEB activities against engaging in any form of examination malpractice.

“The Police, working closely with UNEB, will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone attempting to compromise the credibility of national examinations. The long and indomitable arm of the law will firmly reach out to all offenders,”SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, Regional Police Public Relations Officer, North Kyoga Region

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the integrity of national examinations and ensuring that justice is delivered without fear or favor.
