Alebtong District, Uganda — Police in Alebtong District have arrested a 24-year-old woman for allegedly killing her one-month-old baby.

The suspect has been identified as Brenda Amongi, a resident of Akoko-woo “B” Village, Acede Parish in Awei Sub-county.

According to the LC3 Chairperson of Awei Sub-county, Sam Oyena Obonyo, the incident occurred at around 4:00 PM on 5th March 2026. Speaking to Q FM Radio, Oyena Obonyo said Amongi allegedly strangled her one-month-old baby following a domestic misunderstanding.

Preliminary reports indicate that the dispute may have been linked to the child’s father, Bosco Agole, who is reportedly married to two women. It is alleged that Amongi became angry after Agole left home to visit his other wife, an incident believed to have triggered the tragic act.

The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Alebtong District, Lameck Ongom, confirmed receiving the report and said police have begun investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the baby’s death.

Police have registered a murder case against Brenda Amongi under reference SDF 03/05/03/2026.

Meanwhile, Oyena Obonyo condemned the incident and urged the public in Lango and across Uganda to seek counseling and guidance whenever they face family misunderstandings instead of resorting to violence.

Similarly, RDC Ongom called on the public to resolve family disputes peacefully and avoid taking matters into their own hands as investigations continue.
