LIRA DISTRICT - Minister for Disasterpreparedness,Relief and Refugees Sam Engola is set to meet the Minister of Education and Sports on Monday, October 5,2026,to discuss the construction of a library and provision of books at Amach Complex Secondary School in Lira District.

Engola announced the planned meeting on Sunday,October 4,2026,while serving as the guest of honour at a candidates’ dedication prayer held at the school ahead of the 2026 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.

The issue was raised by the school’s Headteacher Mr.Canon George M.Okwee, who highlighted the absence of a proper library and adequate learning materials as some of the challenges affecting the school’s academic development.

Following the concern,Engola contacted Dr. Chrysostom Muyingo, the Acting Minister responsible for Education and Sports, and requested government intervention to support the construction of a library and provision of books at the school.

Engola told the gathering that he had agreed to meet the Education Minister on Monday to find a way forward on the proposed library project and the provision of reading materials.

He said the intervention is intended to strengthen the learning environment at Amach Complex Secondary School and enable students to access the books and other materials they need to improve their academic performance.

Engola also promised to bring his engineer to the school to assess the water situation and explore possible ways of increasing the supply of clean water to the girls’ dormitory.

He said adequate access to clean water is essential for the health, hygiene and welfare of students, particularly those staying in the school’s boarding facilities.

Engola further pledged to provide food items and some scholastic materials including a bull and other provisions, to support students sitting their UCE and UACE examinations.

He said the gesture is aimed at supporting the candidates during the examination period and encouraging them to remain focused on their studies.

The minister also linked the occasion to Uganda’s Independence celebrations, which take place on October 9.

The Chairperson of the Board of Governors of Amach Complex Secondary School,Dr. Laury Lawrence Ocen, said the school remains committed to improving education in the Lango sub-region.

Dr.Ocen appealed to parents and guardians to take greater responsibility for the welfare and education of their children, warning that some young people are exposed to negative influences when parents fail to provide adequate guidance and protection.

He urged stakeholders to create a safe environment in which learners can concentrate on their education.

Meanwhile,Reverend James Okaka, who led the candidates’ dedication prayer, encouraged parents to continue supporting their children’s education despite the challenges they face.

Rev.Okaka identified excessive alcohol consumption among some parents as one of the factors that can affect families’ ability to meet school-related expenses.

He urged parents to prioritise education and avoid practices that divert resources away from the needs of their children.

Amach Complex Secondary School has 234 candidates preparing to sit UCE 2026 national examinations, including 83 UACE candidates.

School leaders, parents and invited guests used the dedication ceremony to encourage the candidates to remain disciplined, focused and committed as they prepare for their final examinations.
