Otuke District receives UGX125 Million for (PWDs) and Elderly income Projects

OTUKE – The Government of Uganda has released UGX 125 million to organized groups of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)and older persons in Otuke District to support income-generating activities and boost household livelihoods.
Isaac Opio Opeo, Assistant RDC of Otuke, When speaking for Deputy RDC Francis Okwameri, during engagement meeting on Thursday 2nd July 2026, said the money has been shared among 20 beneficiary groups, with each group receiving UGX 5 million.

District officials say the latest release is made up of:
1. UGX 100 million for PWDs groups
2. UGX 25 million for Elderly groups
“This funding is part of the government’s broader wealth creation agenda initiated by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to ensure vulnerable groups are not left behind in national development,”Opio Opeo said.
He added that the programme works along side PDM and Emyooga, which target poverty eradication and household income growth.
The first to benefit are Abalero PWD Group and Te-Gweng Elders Group while more eligible groups are expected to be supported in subsequent phases.
Beneficiaries Speak Out
Martha Amule of Par-Pi-Awoti PWDs Group, Acake Village, Okwongo Town Council,welcomed the support. “The funds will help members invest in productive ventures and improve our standards of living,” Martha Amule she said.
Moses Obua, Chairperson of Konyere-Kena PWD Group, Awaka Village, Alula Parish, Olilim Sub-county, pledged accountability. “We will use the money responsibly to establish sustainable income-generating projects,” Obua said.
